Discover Tinos
Sightseeing
Tinos has sights that bring every visitor in touch with its history and tradition. The landscapes, the food and the sea certainly make a trip to this Cycladic island unforgettable, but if you want to feel part of life on the island, even if only for a while, then you should not miss the following sights.
The church of Panagia Megalochari
When you visit Tinos, the church of Panagia Megalochari is at the top of the list of must-see sights. The interior of the temple is all white and marble, creating an environment that can accommodate the prayer of any believer. Imposing chandeliers, dozens of candelabras and countless gold and silver gifts create an impressive ambience of unique aesthetics.
The Museum of Marble Crafts
The Museum of Marble Crafts is located in the village of Pyrgos. There you can admire impressive marble exhibits: Fountains, coats of arms, mechanical devices and tools for the extraction and processing of marble. Tinos is still the most important modern Greek center for marble work, so a visit to this museum is worthwhile as you will see real works of art.
Dovecotes
Dovecotes are an excellent example of the folk art that has survived on many Aegean islands since the Venetian occupation. However, they are the island's trademark, as there are more than a thousand dovecotes on Tinos, which is why the beauty of the settlements here is so special. In the village of Tarabados you will see the most impressive dovecotes. One is completely different from the other, so you can enjoy these works of art in every version.
Kolimpithra
Kolimpithra is the most popular beach of Tinos and is located in the northern part of the island, about 15 km from Chora. It is divided into two beaches: Mikri Ammos is the shorter one and Megali Ammos is the longer one. Its water is crystal clear and deep, which is why it is the first choice for most vacationers during their summer vacations. You can often see surfers at Megali Ammos as it throws up big waves due to the strong winds. The sight is truly impressive and another reason why many prefer Kolimpithra.
Volakas
The settlement of the "moon rocks"! Volakas is a very special place of geomorphologic heritage, where huge rocks are scattered around. It is not located by the sea, but its mountainous beauty makes the heart of every visitor beat faster. This village with its unique landscape is located 17 km from Chora and is one of the island's purely Catholic villages. Volakas is definitely worth a visit. You can also enjoy delicious local snacks in the taverna with the same name as this beautiful village.
